With two successful festivals under their belts the planning for the third festival started later with the first Board meeting on Sept. 16, 1996. As usual the member organizations were slow in assigning their directors. A number of suggestions were again offered to improve the Festival.
Jørgen Conradsen continued to send newsletters to keep the Officers, Board of Directors and key committee people informed.
The committees had expanded to 27 plus 5 more for the food houses.

At the January board meeting the decision was made to allow exhibitors to sell T-shirts. Arvid’s initial budget had $73,950 income based on 4500 visitors and 3500 food house platters.
By April it was agreed to buy 72 golf shirts at $16.75 ea. The volunteers entered by the rear door. A Finnish Bakery in Florida was not permitted to exhibit because of potential competition with the existing Festival sales.
Sam Linden was the MC on Sat. and Laurie Fulton on Sun. The returning entertainment included:
Scandinavian Folk Dancers of Raleigh
Sasha (Alexander Lisnichuk)
Viking Age Club Village
Children from the Swedish School of Atlanta
The new entertainment was:
Swedish Voices Chamber Choir
Muskarit guitar and bass
Seija Pesonen
VASA Dränger men's choir from the Nordic Lodge
The Festival was a great success with 3300 visitors and the income equal to the first Festival. There were 16 exhibitor booths. The program book increased to 28 pages. The post-Festival party was held at the Linden’s on July 12. The fashion show was very popular. Seija Pesonen brought many national costumes from Finland.
Interestingly, many of the suggestions presented after these first three festivals are still being recommended, including:
Visit each member organization to develop more interest in the Festival
Hold the Festival on a weekend other than Memorial Day and move it to the Fall.
The volunteer chairperson should be very visible.
Have a representative from each country for cultural, Country Store, and other areas.
Use larger and better signs.
Utilize sponsors for the expenses of the entertainers.
Control expenditures and have budgets.
Margareta Martin and Inger Stover began to prepare a manual for officers, directors and committee chairpersons.
