Many people said that it was an impossible task but this did not detract those intent on developing a Scandinavian Festival.
Led by Barbro Linden and Inger Stover the first recorded meeting was held on April 25, 1994 at Barbro Linden’s home. Subsequent
meetings were held monthly.
Tom Rosseland prepared the first draft of the Articles of Incorporation and the By-laws on July 25, 1994. The initial officers
were Jørgen Conradsen, President, Inger Stover, VP and Barbro Linden, Treasurer. Shortly after Guye Dupcak became Secretary
and Bryndis Jonsdottir-Coffin the second VP.
Each of the 9 organizations representing the Scandinavians in the Atlanta area were requested to advance $200 each as seed
money for the Festival. By Sept. 1994 most of the organizations had selected their representatives and alternates to the
Festival Board of Directors.
During the August meeting the Cobb County Civic Center was selected for the Festival. It was the least expensive by far
of the alternatives that were evaluated, including Oglethorpe University and Decatur Town Square.
At this same meeting the Viking ship logo was adopted. Everyone liked the multicolored flag designed by Bryndis Jonsdottir-Coffin
but the cost of multi color for stationary was too high. The flag design was eventually used on T-shirts and the program
books starting with the 1996 Festival.
